The benefits of k-Carrageenan-gelatin hybrid composite coating on the medical grade stainless steel (SS304) used as anticorrosive barrier

Biopolymers derived from seaweed are good anticorrosive, antibacterial and anticancer agents. These biopolymers family includes the k-Carrageenan with potential anticorrosive feature that is extracted red Acanthophora spicifera - Rhodophyceae. To obtain best corrosion inhibition properties k –Carrageenan hybrid composite gelatin was prepared by sol-gel method. In present study, two natural compounds have been used to prepare proposed material. Such as, a self-assembled multilayer coating for medical grade stainless steel (SS) 304 were formed as substrate which can resist successfully mild condition (3.5 wt % of NaCl) in chosen electrolyte medium. The analysis FT-IR confirms hybridation biopolymer -Carrageenan. electrochemical results revealed coated SS promising an efficiency up 97% at 24h 65% 227 h. Eoc values open circuit indicated occurrence passivation on surface due coating. Further, impedance spectroscopy showed resistance higher than bare showing Rct 6.1 kΩ ⋅ cm2 2.1 cm2, respectively. microstructural Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) atomic force microscopy (AFM) confirmed better metal.
